Personal Statement

It takes courage to ask for help and everybody comes to therapy at different phases of life, with varying degrees of motivation and readiness to make change. While some seek to accomplish very specific goals, others come with a vague sense that something is wrong and find themselves looking for guidance about how to begin improving their lives. Therefore, my first goal as a therapist is to have the sensitivity and awareness to accurately assess what each client genuinely wants or needs beginning with our very first interaction. For some this first step involves building a safe and trusting relationship where they can feel secure enough to share their thoughts and feelings, some of which they may never have discussed before. For others with more defined goals, this initial phase may involve providing the necessary amount of encouragement and education about the relevant therapeutic techniques they require to accomplish their individual objectives.

As an integrative therapist I frequently use cognitive-behavioral based therapies, exposure and response prevention, mindfulness-based techniques, interpersonal psychotherapy and aspects of psychodynamic therapy. Whereas most techniques I use focus on my clients’ current concerns, it sometimes also becomes important to understand their origins from the past. I generally explain the rationale for every technique I plan to use in therapy and ask for my client’s ideas and feedback as we proceed.

I am always open to listening to your concerns and thoughts. I would be happy to provide a free 15 minute phone consultation to discuss whatever questions you may have.
