As a therapist Dr. Haag offers warm and compassionate support while working to help his clients achieve their unique therapeutic goals. His work integrates relational and mindfulness-based cognitive behavioral therapies. Dr. Haag places great importance on the primacy of interpersonal relationships, which can harness the power for transformational growth and healing. This is so for all relationships, and it is especially so for the therapeutic relationship.
While Dr. Haag helps clients with a wide range of issues, his areas of specialization include addressing complex relational problems (both romantic and familial difficulties), the treatment of anxiety disorders, and working with individuals who have histories of trauma and complex trauma (those who have been exposed to repeated painful emotional experiences, typically during childhood).
Dr. Haag’s therapeutic approach is grounded in a genuine disposition of warmth and earnest compassion. He integrates evidence-based relational therapies and cognitive behavioral therapies (CBT) such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT). At times he and his clients focus on understanding past experiences, developing insight, and on processing difficult or painful emotions. At other times work with Dr. Haag becomes more solution oriented, focused on the here-and-now. This can entail bolstering coping skills, developing mindfulness or relaxation practices, or problem-solving ongoing issues, together.
Dr. Haag has 14 years of experience practicing in private settings and at major medical centers including Mount Sinai, Beth Israel Medical Center, and Kings County Hospital. He has researched, taught, and written extensively on the topics of mindfulness, self-compassion, depression, anxiety, attachment, and the intersection of emotional and relational difficulties.
